Category-I Marking Scheme

Category-I will contain 80 questions, with each question carrying 1 mark.

The marking rules are:

  1. Only one option is correct for each question.
  2. A correct answer will receive 1 mark.
  3. An incorrect answer will result in a negative marking of 1/4 mark.
  4. Selecting more than one option will be treated as an incorrect answer, even if the correct option is included.
  5. No marks will be awarded for an unanswered question.

Category-II Marking Scheme

Category-II will contain 20 questions, with each question carrying 2 marks. There is no negative marking in this category.

The important rules are:

  1. One or more options may be correct.
  2. Selecting all the correct options and no incorrect options will earn 2 marks.
  3. If an answer includes one or more incorrect options, it will receive zero marks.
  4. Partially correct answers can receive partial marks when all selected options are correct, but one or more correct options have not been selected.

The partial marking formula is:

  • Marks = 2 × (Number of correct options marked ÷ Total number of actually correct options)
  • No marks will be awarded for an unanswered question.

WB JECA 2027 Examination Mode

The WB JECA 2027 exam will be conducted using a specially designed OMR sheet. The answer sheets will be evaluated using the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) method. Candidates must mark their answers by completely darkening the appropriate circle/bubble with a blue or black ink ballpoint pen.

Candidates should be extremely careful while marking the OMR sheet. Incomplete or unclear markings, pencil marks, ticks, crosses, dots, overwriting, erasing, scratching, marking outside the bubble, or other improper markings may result in an incorrect or ambiguous reading of the answer. Once a response has been marked, it cannot be edited, changed, erased, or modified.

WB JECA 2027 Ranking Methodology

The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) will prepare the merit rank based on candidates’ scores in the Common Entrance Test. Candidates will be able to view and download their individual Rank Card, which will contain their score and rank. WBJEEB will not publish individual rank or score lists.

The main rank will be called the General Merit Rank (GMR). The GMR will be prepared in descending order of marks scored. Candidates with higher marks will receive a better rank.

Separate category ranks may also be provided, such as:

  • SC Rank
  • ST Rank
  • OBC-A Rank
  • OBC-B Rank
  • EWS Rank
  • PwD Rank

However, the GMR will be used for counselling, seat allotment, and admission sequencing. Category ranks are provided only for information to candidates belonging to the respective categories.

Candidates must ensure that their category certificates and supporting documents are valid at the time of verification. If a category claim is found to be invalid during counselling or admission, the category rank may be cancelled, and the candidate may be considered under the general category in the next applicable round.

WB JECA 2027 Tie-Breaking Rules

If two or more candidates obtain the same marks, WBJEEB will apply the following tie-breaking rules in sequence:

  1. The candidate with fewer negative marks in Category-I will receive preference.
  2. If the tie continues, the candidate with higher marks in Category-II will be preferred.
  3. If the tie still remains, the older candidate according to date of birth will receive preference.
  4. If the tie remains even after considering the date of birth, the candidate with the lower application number, meaning the candidate who applied earlier, will receive preference.
